Infusion Nurses Society Advanced IV Class – Overview of Central Venous Access Devices, Indications and Maintenance March 19, 2010 0730 – 1730 Speakers: Lauri Maier, CRNI PSINS President, and PSINS Board Members About the Course: At the completion of the course the participants will be able to ● List two institutions that provide guidelines in the practice of IV Therapy ● Identify 3 types of tunneled catheters ● Identify 3 types of non-tunneled catheters ● Demonstrate in the lab setting appropriate techniques for central line dressing change and catheter maintenance ●List 3systemic complications of IV Therapy ● List 3 local complications of IV Therapy ● List 3 indications for obtaining central venous access ● Identify the difference between a valved and non-valved catheter ● Identify components to accurately document IV therapy insertion and maintenance As a participant you will observe demonstration, practice skills with instructor and preceptor feedback, and review the essential components of documentation.
